An Archive of Lucky Loonie Launches

Back to Newsletter index

In both 2004 and 2006, Vancouver was lucky enough to be the venue for the official unveiling of each year's official Lucky Olympic Loonies by the Royal Canadian Mint. Since we are rapidly approaching 2008, we wonder if the honour will be a three-peat.

To clear the decks from the index page of this site, we present photos from the past 2 events here.

Olympic LoonieThe 2004 Lucky Loonie Ceremony

In August, 2004, the Royal Canadian Mint took over General Motors Place to unveil the Olympic Lucky Loonie with a plethora of dignitaries in attendance.

Here, Gold Medal winner Daniel Igali speaks to the crowd surrounded by representatives of the Mint, Federal and Provincial politicians and a young hockey player representing amateur sport.

Here are the photos we took, click on the small picture to open the larger version.
