Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games Open |

After 6 years of anticipation and construction, the XXI Olympic Winter Games have arrived in Vancouver and the city is transformed to a world stage. Flags are flying, everyone is decked out in Canada's red and white and the crowded streets are electric with the buzz. Both the Royal Canadian Mint and Canada Post are involved in the festivities, the Mint with a very busy pavilion at 500 Granville St at Pender (the SFU Graduate School of Business). The Post Office is providing Olympic cancels at 349 West Georgia Street. |

| The Mint kicked off their party on Thursday, February 11, with a road hockey shoot-out on Granville Street in front of their pavilion. With Trevor Linden, former captain of the Vancouver Canucks and 1998 Olympian in attendance, the noon hour crowds were guaranteed, despite the chilly wind and rain. Also pulling in the crowds was a first prize of a pair of Gold Medal Men's Hockey tickets.
Individuals could enter and three were chosen to participate. |

| Shooting from about 100 feet, the participants had 30 seconds to shoot balls into the net. The first fellow up was obviously a hockey player and he made seven goals. The other two were clueless and got one and two goals.

| Later that afternoon the Olympic Torch Relay passed along 41st Ave on its way to UBC, right beside All Nations. Thousands lined the street, cheering and waving flags in the cold and rain. | ||

| But it was worth it, the sight of the flame gives you goose bumps and a lot of pride that we are hosting the world. | ||

| Meanwhile, over at the Post Office. A stamp tells only half the story. The image and text on a stamp’s cancellation mark can turn a one-in-a-million letter into something very special and unique, a souvenir highly valued by collectors of all kinds. Canada Post is offering 35 unique philatelic pictorial cancels to celebrate the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
The cancels, available February 12, represent the Olympic and Paralympic sports, the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, the Olympic Villages in Vancouver and Whistler and the Main Media Center in Vancouver. For those who will be on site during the Games, the full set of cancels will only be available at the Vancouver Corporate Retail Post Office at 349 West Georgia Street (Monday to Friday, February 12 to 26, between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays, February 13 and 20, between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.). Select cancels will be available at corporate post offices near Olympic venues. Speed Skating Available at the Richmond Main Post Office: 7871 Westminster Hwy, Richmond, BC. Freestyle Aerials, Freestyle Moguls, Freestyle Ski Cross, Snowboard Halfpipe, Snowboard Cross, Snowboard Parallel Giant Slalom Available at the West Vancouver Post Office: 1427 Bellevue Avenue, West Vancouver. Curling, Figure Skating, Ice Hockey, Short Track Speed Skating, Opening / Closing Ceremonies, Mascot Available at Vancouver Station D: 2405 Pine Street, Vancouver, BC. | The Olympic Cauldron burns at the Convention Centre West Plaza. With Glowing Hearts we burn off the cold, clouds and rain and look forward to a forecast of sun and clear skies with warm days. The threat of a snowless North Shore has been allayed with excellent (imported) snow at Cypress, such that Canadian freestyle skier Alexandre Bilodeau has won Canada's first Gold Medal on Canadian soil.
